For the first time in history, the Hempfield Area High School hockey team made it to the Penguins Cup final. After a long season of highs and lows it all led to this moment, one that every high school hockey player wishes to experience their whole career. The team was filled with multiple successes with Colby Herron, Nino DiPietro, and JJ Williams being players of the month, Mats Marts being athlete of the week, and those three lucky goals being scored by Guerin Gardner, Colby Herron, and Johnny Holtzman.
Even though the game ended in a 3-4 loss against Penn Trafford, being proud of this team and what they have accomplished is an understatement. From Guerin Gardner’s lucky penalty shot to Spartan Empire who showed up and out to support their team even in the bad weather, what was a devastating loss turned into a placard of strength, determination, and pride. We cannot wait to see what this team has to accomplish after pulling off the unexpected! Good luck to our seniors in their post-high school plans, and the team who will continue to work hard in the coming years.
