On December 4th, students from French, German, and Spanish classes participated in their annually offered field trip to Pittsburgh for a fun evening full of festive shopping and ice skating.
As one the highlights of the school year for most language students, the trip to Pittsburgh’s PPG Place typically includes a dinner to restaurants significant to each language class, shopping at the Peoples Gas Holiday Market, and lastly ice skating downtown. However, with Market Square being under construction, students and teachers have had to deviate slightly from the trip’s traditional format. But, as expected from such a great group, this didn’t stop them from making the most of their evening.
Rather than each language class going to a restaurant in Market Square for dinner, everyone divulged in Chipotle and pizza at the high school prior to leaving for Pittsburgh.
Once they arrived, the students had the opportunity to shop around the Holiday Market set up in this year’s temporary location. From hot cocoa to handcrafted soaps and Christmas tree ornaments the marketplace really exposed students to different cultures from around the world all whilst benefiting the small entrepreneurs selling their products. A win-win experience for all involved.
After an hour of shopping, the students lastly made their way to Pittsburgh’s UPMC Rink at PPG Place for their final and most exciting event: ice skating around the enormous Christmas tree! Whether students were doing their best to hold each other’s hand to not fall or having races against one another, contagious laughter filled the chilly air.
With everything said and done, students went home with not only a wonderful experience, but memories to carry with them throughout their life.
