Soft white snow laid peacefully across the back of Harrold School, but soon kids dressed in their snow gear will bring their sleds. Laid out on tables were pre-made s’more packages and hot chocolate served by the teachers. Giggles ring out as snowballs fly over the small bonfires. All of the good behavior demonstrated by the class of 29’ has led to this moment.
Harrold is a special and unique place that brings a different feel to high school life. At the start of the 2022-23 school year, the initial plan was to move the freshman down to Harrold and start renovation at the high school, with the intent of the school not being so crowded.
The teachers and staff needed a way to make them feel like a part of the high school and resorted to what they call a “Mystery Motivator”; this can be compared to the “Spartan Shields” that are handed out by teachers at the high school. Every quarter is a new reward, and this quarter they held the annual Snowmageddon which is held above Harrolds football field.
To kick off the event, the “Golden Ticket” winners get to go out before everyone else and enjoy some hot cocoa. They are randomly selected from the group of their best students.
Mrs. Marshall explained that. “The mystery motivators promote positive behavior all year long. They don’t do it (good behavior) just for the motivator, but they do it because we have a good community around us”.
Even though we wish the winter weather would come to an end Harrolds team made the best of it by giving the kids what they love, Snowmageddon.
