Our school has welcomed a new principal, Mr. Simons. While new to us, Mr. Simons is no stranger to the district, having worked with many students before at the elementary level. Now, he’s excited to reconnect with familiar faces at the high school.
The transition from elementary to high school seems vast, but when asked about his preferred level, Simons did not express a preference, “There are pros and cons to both. I am loving the high school because a lot of the students that I had in elementary [school], I have again here.”
While the role of a principal might seem intimidating, Mr. Simons wants students to know he’s an approachable member of our staff. “When you think of a principal or administrator, it’s really intimidating, but remember we are just people too, and it’s not supposed to be scary.” His goal is to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable approaching him.
As for the future, Mr. Simons hopes to remain at the school long-term and to continue making a positive impact on students. He emphasized the value of perspective and understanding saying, “There are so many different lens angles. Everyone deserves to be heard.”
With that mindset, Mr. Simons is ready to lead with fairness, familiarity, and a commitment to supporting both students and staff.
