When we think of trick or treating, collecting candy comes to mind. However, this year, Hempfield Area Senior High School students are putting a greater meaning behind the concept of trick or treat.
The Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has once again asked Hempfield Area students to take part in the Trick or Treat-MENT fundraiser. This is the third year that the high school students have taken part in Trick or Treat-MENT; last year they raised over $5,500. The torch has been passed down to Senior Kennedy Nelson this year, who says, “our goal for this year is to raise over $6,000.”
Instead of going door to door collecting as much candy as they can, students will ask for donations for the cause. These much needed funds will pay for innovative research projects working to develop better treatments, and ultimately, cures for all childhood cancers.
Before Halloween, door pamphlets will be placed throughout over thirteen surrounding Hempfield Area neighborhoods. Then, on Halloween night, the high school volunteers will go around and kindly ask for donations from 6pm-8pm. After the collecting is done, the students will then meet at Applebees as a way to celebrate all of their hard work and efforts! Kennedy Nelson explains that “we are trying to get as many volunteers as possible so we can cover the max amount of neighborhoods to reach our goal.”
