It’s clear that the boy’s soccer team has faced struggles in past seasons, but the team is looking for a huge turn around in 2024 as they notched their first win since 2021 against Derry in a 4-2 victory. Sophomore Sawyer Leuthold netted two goals in the match, and sophomore Isaac Pugliese and junior Braden Crowe also scored for the team. It was a relieving win, but Senior Captain Quentin Pettinato isn’t entirely satisfied.
“I think there’s still more work to do. I don’t think we’ve played our best game yet” says Pettinato.
Pettinato, who was present for the team’s win three years ago against Mount Pleasant, definitely senses a different vibe compared to years prior. In the past, the team was just a group of guys playing soccer with the hope of winning. This year however, the team has developed more than ever into a team “ready to compete.” Pettinato credits his coaching staff for instilling the tactics and developing necessary skills to be a successful program.
With a roster full of freshmen and sophomores, one would think the team would lack experience. On the contrary, many of the players play cup soccer during the off season, challenging teams all around the state and even in other states. The experience is there, and with such a young roster, the team is hopeful to only get better as the years progress.
