‘Tis the season for thanks and love, and what better way to exemplify these feelings during November than sending our sincere gratitude for our Hempfield Area veterans. This month, students in United Spartans and Alpha Omega are teaming together hand-in-hand to create care packages for alumni and teachers who have served in the military while Spartan Planning Committee works in conjunction with the Social Studies Department to decorate the auditorium and create gift bags for our district Veterans.
Gathering during homeroom periods, the students are working to paint ornaments, write letters, and make all things red, white, and blue in honor of those who gave of themselves for us all. Senior Ashley Meszar explains, “Having two grandfathers [who] served, I think that it’s important that we give our appreciation to our veterans, and this is such a cool opportunity to do it right in our own community.”
Spreading admiration for our neighbors in the holiday months is something that we often forget to do among the blur of everything as the year comes to end. Hempfield Area High School students are working to ensure that those who have selflessly served our community and country with love will receive the same in return regardless.
