After a week of chilly flurries, NHS, student council, Mrs. Fetterman and Mrs. Kertoy joined to bring warmth in the form of spirit and pride by recognizing Hempfield Area’s sports teams at the winter pep rally. The event, ranging from throwing rubber ducks and stacking cardboard boxes to athletic recognition, was more than an assembly. It was an event to bring the Hempfield Area students and staff together after a week of virtual instruction.
Jack Hassinger kicked off the event on a high note by playing the National Anthem and the Alma Mater. Following, our cheerleaders, who just returned from nationals looking ‘bronze’, showcased portions of their routine.
Next, we were able to highlight our Student Council, Mini-THON, and winter sports’ teams for their accomplishments and hard work put forth this year. We are so proud of Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Hockey, Indoor Track, Bowling, Rifle, Cheerleading, Swim & Dive, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Indoor Color Guard, and Bocce.
We were also honored to recognize Hempfield Area alumni, Jasmine Jones, for her upcoming Olympic bobsledding performance. As she said, remember “your dreams are never too big,” so keep striving forward always.
It was then time to Chuck a Duck, an event hosted by Mini-THON to help raise funds for pediatric cancer. The winner, Jayden Smith, earned a prize of $100 in Chick-fil-A gift cards, donated by our student store.

The pep rally was undoubtedly a success from our NHS and student council MCs, our united teams, our student and staff relays, and our Hempfield Area pride.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported in bringing the school together, and a huge congratulations to our athletic teams who had great successes this winter.
