Clearly “Anything Goes” in Hempfield Area’s 2025 spring musical! From messy love to dresses that were flowing as much as the champagne, this all-star cast gave a “delightful, delicious, de-lovely” performance with extensive dance numbers, true to life acting, and impressive vocals.
The cast of characters featured dynamic personalities with complex love interests and comical exchanges. Show stopper, Reno Sweeney, played by Mia Catone, led the cast with her unbounded vocals and fabulous lineup of dresses. She sparkled literally and figuratively as she glided across the stage trying to discover where her heart truly belonged.
Along with Catone, Eli Karnash, playing Billy Crocker, in love with Anna Paterno’s character Hope, captured the hearts of the audience who feared their relationship might capsize.
The true master of disguise was Nathaniel Helfrich, who comprised the role of Evelyn, and who quickly became the most cherished character with his witty performance and incredible vocals.
More than mentionable, was duo Atticus Kiesel, who played Moonface Martin, and his accomplice Erma, played by Ainslee Bailey. We certainly got a kick out of the second most notorious criminal and his hilarious and stunning counterpart.
These characters, accompanied by a crew of sailors, brought the stage to life. The dance numbers seemed to be a constant addition to each act. Most noteworthy, was the eight minute tap routine before intermission, a jaw dropping number that undoubtedly required stamina and so much practice.
Accolades must be given to the staff who gave their expertise, hearts, and time to make this show all it could be. Mrs. Linda Comm, producer and director, Mr. Eli Gilbert, co-director, Mr. David Emanuelson, vocal music director, Mrs. Katie Kertoy, choreographer, and Mrs. Tina Stewart, costume designer, worked alongside the dance captains, section leaders, stage crew, hair and makeup, and most importantly, the cast to produce this incredible musical for Hempfield Area!
To all those who invested so much of themselves in this production, there’s not much left to say except, You’re the Tops!
