If you have ever wondered who’s behind the morning announcements, it’s Mr. Cullen and the students in the TV Writing and Broadcasting Class. Each day, they brainstorm, film, and edit to produce our morning announcement show: 15601.
Nick Klavon explained how they come up with ideas, “Usually we go off of holidays that are coming up to make our skits. He spoke of the team using, “MTV cribs videos, funny interviews, ads for clubs, upcoming events, and anything that comes to mind” to develop their clever shorts. Whether it’s a skit or a funny interview, the students try to keep it engaging for everybody watching.
There’s a lot of work that goes into making these videos. Mason Maury shared, “The crew starts by setting up the equipment, and the anchors practice before we record and upload the final take”.
Like any class, there are challenges. Klavon reflects, saying, “Time crunches can be stressful, as well as the creative slumps [which] can be hard to work out”.
Even with the challenges, students in TV Writing and Broadcasting agree that it’s worth it. “It’s not just a class; it’s a chance to get creative and learn real skills,” Maury said.
Mr. Cullen emphasized the importance of the program, noting that he is “looking forward to the high school revitalization project to allow for technological advancements to bring the studio ‘up to date’”.
In a district of our size, we are certainly thankful to the 15601 team for keeping us informed each and every day.
