As the highly anticipated renovation project is conceptually underway, big changes are coming to Hempfield Area High School. This multi-phase project aims to modernize the majority of the school, expand the layout, and create a comfortable and more modern learning environment.
The renovation, which is expected to take a number of years, will include updates such as expanding the field house, adding a student hub and a ninth-grade academy, and so much more.
One of the key enhancements is the expansion of the field house, which will allow for a large, more accommodating lobby. A reception office, security monitors, and an open floor looking down on the fitness center will also be installed within the renovated field house. On the first floor, a large wrestling room will be set in the bottom left corner of the layout. Moving into the middle of the lower floor plan sits two team rooms with an office on the outside of both of them. On the far right is the fitness room and three additional locker rooms.
Another exciting edit that is happening in the school comes with the addition of a student hub. The hub will include tables and lounge spaces for students to study, relax, and eat. Hanging ring lights will add a sleek feel to the comfortable space, as well as an opening to allow students and staff to see up to the second floor.
A major part of the school will be sectioned off to create a ninth-grade “academy”, which will be an alternative to the freshman having to be held at Harrold. While much isn’t known about the academy at this point in time, it will without a doubt make transportation easier for freshmen and allow for more unity among students.
The renovation of the high school is more than just a makeover; it’s an investment in the future of all Hempfield Area students present and future. These upgrades will create a more dynamic, inclusive, and supportive environment where students can thrive academically, athletically, and socially. The future of Hempfield Area is bright, and these renovations are a significant step forward in achieving greatness.
