Every freshmen has had to transition between middle school to high school, but what about middle school to Harrold? One of the biggest transitions, no matter the building, is responsibility.
As students, we have witnessed the changes in responsibilities since the first day of school. Our middle school teachers have been telling us for three years about how different high school is and how we have to start acting more mature. The ninth grade teachers have also expressed that only gets more challenging from here. It feels a bit intimidating, but it also keeps getting better. “The amount of homework is definitely a bigger responsibility. We are also expected to act more mature to earn respect” said Teagan Zola, a ninth grader at the Harrold building. Many other students agreed that homework is the biggest change in responsibility since moving to ninth grade.
Responsibilities include managing athletic schedules, getting to class on time, finding our buses, and using our phones. “The phone rules are much different than last year. Although we have more freedom with them, it is a greater responsibility to only be on them when allowed,” Rainee Reidenbaugh told us.
Some students feel Harrold is not a big change from middle school. Ella Barras stated, “Dress code and discipline are the same as last year. I don’t feel that there are that many new responsibilities.” Others noted that the rules are the same: do our work, manage behaviors, and get to class on time.
We all have come to the understanding that there are still rules and responsibilities when it comes to Harrold, and as a school we will follow and adapt to them, as we do every year. As a school we are all still adjusting to the new environment around us, which will forge our paths to prepare us for the 10-12 high school building.
