The Hempfield Area Lacrosse Team has started on a bit of a low note, but has some great expectations for this senior season. Led by a strong senior and junior core this year filled with experience and some newcomers the team seems poised to rack up the wins. This year we wanted to get the best of both worlds for the team, so for the interview we got a “rookie” for his senior season in Matthew Vohs, and a seasoned vet in Shawn Murray.
Q: Why do you enjoy playing lacrosse?
Matt – “Just being outside with your friends after being jammed in a classroom all day long”
Shawn – “I enjoy it because the team we have, we are like a family, we have grown up together and hang out all the time in and out of school.”
Q: What makes the team special for you?
Matt – “The leadership and helpfulness that some of the players who have played together for a while have, and the way they can help the guys recently starting out.”
Shawn – “We have such a tight knit group, that just blends together as good as a team could, I’m excited to see what’s to come.”
Q: How Has Hempfield Lacrosse has helped him off the field?
Matt – “The ability to help young freshmen and sophomores with things they need in their personal lives and growing through high school.”
Shawn – “The coaches and atmosphere has pushed me to become a better person and a leader to boys looking up to me as I did to the seniors when I was in their position.”
As for Hempfield gaining a few wins stacked and a momentum shift for the boys in the month of April, they could be destined for greatness.
