The Final Curtain Call

The+Final+Curtain+Call

The final current call for Jocey Davis has arrived, and it is an honor to reflect on her last 4 incredible years as part of the High School Musical and Hempfield Area band.

In her freshman year, Jocey was just getting started in Fame as a featured dancer. She was still in her shell just starting to get the feel for being apart of the musicals. In her sophomore year, Jocey became the dance captain and was young Sophie in Mamma Mia which was a more involved character then the year before. Then junior year came around, and Seussical changed the game for her. At first, Jocey had no idea why exactly she was given such a significant role and was feeling like she was lacking in talent.

It was at practice one day that everything clicked for her. This role made her gain so much confidence that she struggled with before hand. Not only was Jocey thrown out of her comfort zone with the role she was given, but this year was a different experience for her because it was a wide variety of people participating in the program, like three football players. It was a year for breaking stereotypes. This was an eye opener for Jocey because it taught her not to judge people so quickly and to keep an open mind.

While senior year has been her most stressful year yet, the musical has made it more positive and has been what gets her through the day. It was a bittersweet year for Jocey. She was drum major for the band providing commands to the ensemble, leading them, and directing them. She was also given her dream role Wednesday in Addams Family, but this was her last time perform on Hempfield Area’s stage.

Jocey got to finish her career surrounded by her favorite people. She’s experienced highs and lows with all of her closest friends throughout it all and has created bonds that will last a lifetime.

Something that Jocey has learned and would advise anyone to do is to “say yes to getting out of your comfort zone and talk to people you wouldn’t normally talk to. Stay positive throughout the whole thing whether it’s the musical, a sport you’re in, anything”.

While this may be her last year participating in the Hempfield Area musicals and the band, Jocey plans to go to college to study sound recording technology, while continuing to do musical theater in her free time.

Outside of school, Gianna loves to hangout with her friends, work out, spend time with family, and watch Netflix. Gianna especially loves listening to Billie Eilish and has even gone to see her in concert 4 times. Gianna's plans for the future are to attend a 4-year college in Florida where she will hopefully play volleyball. She is still unsure of what career path she is going to take but has many options that interest her. She is very excited to start this journey on "The Royal".
