As summer quickly approaches and the school year comes to a close I wanted to share my love for summer in this ode.
Ode To Summer
Summer, you are the season for me
you are the sun, sand, and sea
you bring tan skin, brighter smiles, and less responsibilities
you are lemonade stands and laughter
friends all day every day, and car rides with the windows down blasting music
you are late nights, bike rides, and mosquito bites
swimming so long finger tips turn to raisins and after chlorine drenched towels hanging to dry
The smell of smokey wood and smores along with salty air and watermelon to share
you are fireflies twinkling in the night, and
Crickets who peirce the silence with their subtle melody harmonizing one after the other
fireworks on the fourth of July
and singing birds for alarm clocks in the late mornings
Days where its ok to do nothing but listen to the sound of the earth and lay in the sun
The sun who’s golden flecks touch your skin like a warm hug comforting your soul
You are freedom and joy and adventure and are free from expectations
Your memories are what carry me throughout the year,
even after sun kissed cheeks start to fade,
and the first whisper of cold nips the air.
