2023 Thanksgiving Food Drive Recap

2023+Thanksgiving+Food+Drive+Recap

For four consecutive years, Hempfield Area High School students and staff have taken part in a week-long annual food drive. The United Spartans Club delivered 57 boxes filled with Thanksgiving oriented food, each box containing at least fifteen items.

The food was collected on November 20th and taken to Fort Allen and West Point’s Food 2 Go Program. In past years, the club gave food boxes to Hempfield Area High School families in need, but this year, they were able to expand to elementary families as well.

November is gratitude month, and the goal for students was to experience the feeling of helping their community. Therefore, this was not a school wide competition for a prize.

Junior Jessi Jury is a part of United Spartans, and she helped to prepare boxes for families. She explains that “This is a great program for families in need who aren’t as fortunate as others. Everyone deserves to celebrate Thanksgiving and have yummy food. It makes me happy to be able to give back to the community.”

Harrold School, Fort Allen Elementary, and West Point Elementary students also took part in the food drive. The 2023 Thanksgiving food drive was a big success. United Spartans extends their thanks to all of the wonderful students and staff involved. Mrs. Kertoy explains that “Next year we are hoping to involve more people from around the community and overall have more involvement.”
