Michael Jackson has a long lasting legacy throughout the world, and it carries into the halls of Hempfield Area High School. If you walk past room 159 during homeroom, you’ll notice a student dancing and singing his heart out to Michael Jackson’s biggest hits. That student’s name is Jacob Zerbini, and he has always had a love for the king of pop.
Zerbini makes Hempfield a better and more joyful place. The now junior has been moonwalking in front of his homeroom door since his freshman year. He even performed in the talent show last year and showed off his moves to the different Michael Jackson songs. Out of all the Michael Jackson songs, Zerbini said, without hesitation, that his all time favorite is “Billie Jean.” He includes that he “has been dancing ever since he was little”.
Zerbini’s mother said that, “The Michael Jackson obsession came around first grade when he first watched his music videos, but the actual dancing like MJ and dressing like him came around third grade. When Jake got his phone in the sixth grade, he started micro analyzing the dance moves and every detail of the videos”.
Zerbini’s love for sports is just as strong as his love for music. He brings his love for Michael Jackson’s music to practices and events on the football field. The team even gave him the nickname “Jacobi” showcasing their love and admiration for Jake and his enthusiasm. Everyone was proud of Zerbini who, as a junior varsity team member, scored a touchdown against Greensburg Salem.
More, they appreciate how on Friday nights, Zerbini is always the loudest one on the sideline, cheering on his teammates after a big play, and celebrating with the players after they score. The team and coaches all enjoy the pride and excitement that he brings every day.
Reddik Katchur says, “he’s great to have on the team, and he always brings a ton of energy to every single practice and game”.
Zerbini is simply a staple of Hempfield Area High School. So when you walk past this thriller of a kid in the hallway, don’t stop ’til you get enough of Jacob Zerbini.
