An anatomy table is an essential tool in the study of human biology, designed to provide a detailed and organized view of the human body’s internal structures. It plays a critical role in both educational settings and medical research, offering students and professionals a hands-on opportunity to study anatomical features.
Hempfield Area has recently invested in an Anomatage Table to add to their health department. Anatomy and Physiology, the course long taught by retiring teacher Mr. Davis, is offered to juniors and seniors as an elective. Mrs. Mittleider has taken over this program and has seen a drastic increase in student learning. Hempfield Area is one of the only public schools in Western Pennsylvania to have a table, which makes this even more special to the program.
The table’s main purpose is to allow for a more hands-on interactive manner of examining cadavers, especially for those who wish to go into the medical and healthcare world after high school. Mrs. Mittleider explains the change that she sees in student participation saying, “The concepts that are taught in the classroom are brought to life when shown the real-life structure or function on the cadavers. As we started playing around with different tools on the table, many students started teaching us about what they discovered the table could do”.
This table would not have been possible without Mr. Davis and his passion for the advancement in the health department at Hempfield Area. Mrs. Mittleider values Mr. Davis’s advice,“I’ve taught with Mr. Davis for 20 years, so there’s many pieces of advice that I’ve picked up along the way. As he was preparing me to take over the Anatomy and Physiology courses, the two pieces of advice that stuck with me were to just be yourself and believe in yourself even if no one else does”. She motioned to a Sasquatch that now sits behind her desk with the quote on it. “I remind myself to look at it every day,” she says.
Anyone who had Mr. Davis in their high school career has been left with countless stories, that always relate back to classwork. Hempfield Area students are so grateful to have had such a great teacher, mentor, and role model who never failed to put a smile on student faces.
Now, as he takes his next steps, he leaves a lasting legacy behind through a polished curriculum, new tools like this Anamotage table, and his stories that will forever live in the memories of those students who he impacted throughout his career.
