The Christmas Band Concert that took place on an annual basis lit up the auditorium with music, laughter, and enough Christmas spirit to make even Grinch crack a smile. Whether it be Christmas carols or some jazzy numbers, everyone brought their A-game and kept the audience buzzing with delight.
Jazz Band launched the evening, adding some merrymaking music to the evening. The Jazz Band began with the soulful beat of “This Christmas” and the warm and fuzzy tradition of “The Christmas Song.” But they quickly shifted into high gear with “Everyone’s Waiting for the Man with the Bag” and ended with a lively performance of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.”
But then came the Wind Ensemble, and they turned up the dial on the energy levels. Their rendition of “Christmas Exhilaration” truly lived up to its title as they launched from one exhilarating tune after another. But they were not about to let things get dull as they switched with “Calypso”, and they brought with it an air of island tones that made it easy to forget it was winter outside. Let’s not forget the amazing contributions our talented freshmen at Harold gave as well!
Concert Band followed an amazing performance with the classic, “Angels We Have Heard on High”, radiating happiness with their bright brass and rich harmonies. The music continued with the chilly and enchanting sounds of “Winter Ride”, culminating with everyone’s favorite winter tune, “Sleigh Ride”, complete with a special ‘horse whip’ crack that brought smiles to all.
But Mr. Kealey saved some pizzazz for the end with the combined band; using all instruments and talents in one to spread the merriness of the holidays to hundreds.
And it soon became apparent that our music students didn’t merely perform; they brought an absolute dose of holiday cheer. They kicked off the Christmas season with a performance that perfectly encapsulated talent, energy, and Christmas spirit.
