Tis’ the season for giving, and the Hempfield High School’s Girls Lacrosse team did just that on December 3rd at Wendover Middle School. From 12pm-3pm they collected over 200 toys donated for the Toys For Tots program. In past years, the girls and boys lacrosse teams competed against each other to see who would collect more toys. But this year, the girls flew solo.
Using a lacrosse net as storage for the toys, the net was definitely stuffed to the brim. The Toys for Tots program will process and sort each of the toys and deliver them to less fortunate families playing the role of “Santa.”
The girls also had fun with it by playing several Christmas themed lacrosse games, blasting Christmas Carols, drinking hot chocolate, and being silly. Junior Gianna Novotney really enjoyed the day, “I had so much fun with my teammates while also doing good for the community. The outcome was definitely better than I had expected.”
