Over the last two weeks, the Hempfield Area High School participated in the global organization, The Pulsera Project, a movement designed to offer financial and promotional assistance to artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala through the selling of their handmade bracelets and purses. Students in the Spanish National Honor Society sold these bracelets during activity periods, lunch periods, as well as the Pancakes and Pajamas event.
With such great participation from the Hempfield Area staff and students, the Spanish Honor Society was able to raise over $1,200 for artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala. This money will be directly given back to the artisans involved in this project, helping them continue their craft and support their families.
Beyond the financial impact, however, students were able to gain a firsthand experience on the importance of worldwide connection and support. This project raised awareness on the importance of fair trade practices and supporting global artisans. By participating, students were able to see how small changes within their community can contribute to a meaningful change for artisans and families across the world. By purchasing these bracelets and purses, members of the Hempfield Area community were not only able to provide financial support for talented artists, but also provide cultural appreciation and global responsibility.
