On February 7, four members of the Hempfield Area Gymnastics Team represented the Spartans at the WPIAL Individual Gymnastics Championships held at Moon Area High School. Competing against some of the top gymnasts in the district, Izabell Orczeck, Ava Hickman, Elle Dildine, and Charley Wood showcased the strength and dedication of Hempfield Gymnastics on one of the biggest stages of the season.
Leading the way was Ava Hickman, who delivered an outstanding performance across all four events. Hickman earned the title of WPIAL Gold Division All-Around Champion and Balance Beam Champion, solidifying her place among the district’s winners. In addition to her two gold finishes, she placed third on bars and sixth on vault, demonstrating her consistency throughout the competition.
While the other Hempfield gymnasts did not place in their respective divisions, their presence at the championship meet is an achievement in itself. Qualifying for WPIAL Individuals requires months of preparation, focus, and resilience. These athletes train between 12 and 18 hours per week year-round, balancing rigorous practice schedules with academic responsibilities. Their commitment reflects not only personal determination but also pride in representing Hempfield.

Under the leadership of head coach Renee Ruggeri, the program continues to build a culture rooted in discipline, perseverance, and team support. The Spartans’ appearance at WPIAL Individuals highlights the depth of talent within the team and sets a strong foundation for continued success.
Congratulations to Ava Hickman on her championship titles and to all four gymnasts for representing Hempfield Area.
