Practicing everyday, watching film on their upcoming opponents for the season, and starting off the season with a blank slate, the Girls basketball team is back and in full swing. With very new faces to the starting five, the team is still trying to figure out each other and the best way to play the game they love together. The girls still see success while working out the kinks early during their scrimmages. They have already played Laurel Highlands and Belle Vernon in the pre-season and are beginning to see a bright future. For the first game of the season the team came out hot, defeating McKeesport 48-38. The team record is currently 3-0, climbing their way to the top of the bracket. Last season, the girls had a .500 record but are determined to see that improve. The girls hope to have a winning record and make it to the WPIAL Playoffs.
Junior Varsity teams in many sports do not get the recognition they deserve. The girls basketball team has a mix of freshmen through juniors that have shown an outstanding performance presenting a bright future for Hempfield women’s basketball.
