Dom Detruf and Jack Kopas have been friends for as long as they can remember, growing up side by side and playing football together since their early Pop Warner days. Over the years, their chemistry on and off the field has only gotten stronger, and by the time they reached their senior season at Hempfield Area, they had become one of the most electric QB–WR duos the school has ever seen. This year, the dynamic pair didn’t just perform well, they made history. Both players broke significant school records, showcasing not only their individual talent but also the teamwork and dedication they’ve built over more than a decade.
On October 3, 2025, Senior Quarterback Dom Detruf broke Hempfield Area’s record of career yards along with touchdowns. This season will be remembered as one of the most electric chapters in Hempfield Area High School’s football history. At the center of it stands quarterback Dom Detruf, the player whose arm, leadership, and relentless work ethic pushed the Spartans’ offense to heights the program has never seen.

With a calm presence in the pocket and a competitive fire that ignited the entire team, Detruf shattered both the all-time career passing touchdown record and the all-time career passing yards record. This cemented him as one of the greatest offensive players to ever wear Hempfield Area’s blue and silver, passing Justin Sliwoski who previously held both of those records. When asked what it’s like to have his name in the record books, Detruf said, “It is pretty cool to think about. I knew it was possible going into this season and it was definitely one of my goals, so it’s an awesome accomplishment.”

What made Detruf’s run so special wasn’t just the numbers, it was the way he earned them. Game after game, he delivered with precision throws, smart reads, and a confidence that lifted everyone around him. Whether he was threading a ball between defenders or launching a deep shot down the sideline, Detruf made the field feel small and the impossible look easy.

Senior Jack Kopas, a wide receiver, was elected as a team captain for his senior season due to his leadership and dedication to the game. On October 24, 2025, Kopas’s leadership was proved true. Jack Kopas made his mark by breaking 3 school records.

Kopas broke the season receiving record with 61 receptions, the career receiving record with 109 receptions, and the season yards record with 810 yards. Kopas passed Braden Bose who previously held the reception record with 57 catches. Kopas says, “It was an honor being captain and knowing my team trusted me.” Although many players feel the pressure of breaking records and allow it to take over their minds, Kopas says, “I was just more focused on winning games rather than chasing personal records.”

Kopas put together one of the most successful careers by a wide receiver in Hempfield’s history. Jack Kopas went from a promising freshman and developed into the Spartans’ go-to playmaker. He set new high standards for Hempfield Area and cemented a legacy that won’t be forgotten.
