Hempfield Area needs to send a big congratulations to junior Alexis Weimer for being accepted to the 2025 Governor’s School for Global and International Studies. If you know Alexis, you know that she is a very humble person, but this incredible accomplishment cannot go unrecognized.
Alexis will spend a month this summer at the University of Pittsburgh with a limited number of other high-achieving students from throughout the state of Pennsylvania. In addition to taking a world language class, such as Arabic or Chinese, the students will participate in a variety of activities and simulations that focus on vital global issues, such as the global health crises, climate concerns, and governance issues. The students will also participate in community service projects throughout the city.
Alexis was awarded a stipend to cover all but $500 of the program. She will also receive six credits from the University of Pittsburgh.
We are so proud of Alexis and her accomplishment. This is a program that will have a tremendous impact on the rest of her life.
