Once the hustle and bustle of fall begins, it is often easy to get caught up in the chaos, feeling lost and alone in our embark upon the school year. Truth is, high school can be tough. Whether it’s a day when Bowser attacks, one when the sumo suit feels too heavy, or it just seems too good to be true, we must remember that here at Hempfield Area, we truly are all in this together.
It’s that notion of togetherness that keeps us striving towards a final win to save Princess Peach, score the basket, hit the three pointer, or moonwalk with Jacob Zerbini. There was no clearer picture of this journey of our sometimes lows and exuberant highs than our Homecoming Pep Rally.
Thursday, National Honors Society, accompanied by the talent of our homecoming court and the vision of Mrs. Fetterman and Mrs. Franklin, got us all singing the high school musical song that we must cement within our internal dialogue: “we are all in this together.”
The morning began with “My Jersey; Your Impact.” Fourteen senior football players handed out their jerseys to a teacher or staff member who made a difference in their lives. This act showcased appreciation and expressed just how much our daily interactions matter.
In 8th period, the main event commenced with a march through the halls by our band, chants from cheerleaders, and a daring game of rock paper scissors where reigning champ Joey Domonkos won against new superintendent, Dr. Mark Holtzman.
Fall sports were announced recognizing special achievements. Then the court was presented, and in groups, they showcased skits from Mario Brothers to Footloose ending with an all-in dance mob that pretty much included everyone. Fall sports teams, band members, cheerleaders, and our homecoming court danced to our thematic tune.
We will emphasize it again because it is true: we are all in this together. So as October approaches and the school year gets underway, remember, whether we are cheering one last time for our beloved retiring staff or raising the roof for Nate Biondi’s back tuck, there is no challenge we cannot overcome as Spartans, together.
