Jump, Throw, Run

On February 17, the top athletes in each indoor track event from Hempfield Area attended the TSTCA at Edinboro University. 

The girls team finished in second place and the boys placed fourth with some astonishing results:

  • Senior ,Grace Iwig won pole vault with a height of 11’11” and place third in high jump.
  • Sophomore, Chesnee Smith placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.69.
  • Sophomore, Lauren Howard place third in tripe jumps with 36’1.5” and 9.44 in the 60 meter hurdles.
  • Junior, Katie Dolinski placed third in shot put.
  • Junior Allie DeMatt placed fifth in triple jump while hitting a personal record of 35’10”.
  • The girl’s 4 x 800 placed sixth.
  • The girl’s 4 x 200 placed seventh.
  • The girl’s distance medley team placed seventh.
  • Senior, Peyton Heisler hit a personal record of 1:00.8 giving her seventh place in the 400 meters.
  • Sophomore, Preslee Horchak placed eighth in shot put.
  • Senior, Peyton Murray placed first in shot put.
  • Junior, Luke Snyder placed eighth in the 3000 meter with a personal best of 9:19.
  • Senior, Caleb Prola hit a personal record of 22.56 in the 200 placing him third and he got fourth in the 60 meters with 7:07.
  • The boy’s 4 x 200 took third place and the 4 x 400 took sixth.
  • Freshman, Owen Fox tied for sixth in pole vault.

 Congratulations to the following eight athletes who will be attending states on February 25 at Penn State University:

  • Senior, Grace Iwig will be competing in the pole vault and high jump.
  • Sophomore, Lauren Howard in the hurdles, triple jump and long jump.
  • Junior, Allie DeMatt in the triple jump.
  • Sophomore, Chesnee Smith in the 800 meters.
  • Junior, Katie Dolinski in the shot put.
  • Sophomore, Preslee Horchak in the shot put as well.
  • Senior, Caleb Prola in the 60 meters
  • Senior, Peyton Murray in the shot put.

Laci Nease, Editor
Born in Latrobe but raised in Greensburg, Laci Nease is the Public Relations Officer for Hempfields' National English Honors Society, Secretary for Project 18, Editor for Journalism, and is apart of a youth mentor program involved through Wendover Middle School. She fills her life with work, friends, and family. When she is not taking photos for the Hempfield football team, Journalism, and Mini-THON, Laci enjoys hiking with her friends and family at Ohiopyle, playing dominos with her grandparents, and working two jobs- so she can start saving for college. If Laci is not working one of her two jobs and is not at school, then she is most likely at the gym learning about her mental and physical health, or she is digging through her closet to find clothes, shoes, and other accessories to sell and donate. In future years, she hopes to go to college to get her bachelors degree in accounting and finance and her associates degree in communications.
