A Milestone Moment: The First Project 18 Honors Cord Ceremony

Categories:

On March 26, students, families, and staff gathered to celebrate a meaningful milestone at the first-ever Project 18 Honors Cord Ceremony. This inaugural event recognized the hard work, growth, and achievements of Project 18 students as they prepare for the next chapter of their civic lives.

“The Project 18 Honors Cord Ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to bring public recognition to our students,” said Ken Stough.

The ceremony brought together a supportive community, highlighting not only the accomplishments of the students but also the dedication of the families and educators who have guided them along the way. Each student received an honors cord and certificate, symbolizing their commitment, perseverance, and success throughout the program.

When asked what he hopes to leave behind for students and Project 18 teacher Mrs. Sweeney, Stough shared, “My hope is that Mrs. Sweeney now has a new tradition that will make her time as the Project 18 teacher more rewarding. She has done an amazing job getting up to speed on how to teach this unique class, and I’m anxious to see where she takes things.”

The event featured an impressive lineup of guest speakers, including Nico Kapusta, Ken Stough, Eli Karnash, Elise Audia, Jerry Radebaugh, Bill Roland, Dwan Walker, Eric Nelson, Ted Kopas, Angelina Reese, Ian Kovalcik, and Jill Sweeney.

The atmosphere was filled with pride and excitement as students were individually recognized, marking a significant moment in the history of Project 18. For many families, the ceremony served as a powerful reminder of how far their students have come—and the bright futures ahead of them.

Jill Sweeney reflected on the year, saying, “My hope is that students leave this year knowing their voices and actions truly matter. Stay curious, stay engaged, ask thoughtful questions, and always listen with intention and respect for others.”

As the first annual event of its kind, the Project 18 Honors Cord Ceremony set a strong foundation for future celebrations. It not only honored current students but also established a meaningful tradition that will continue to recognize and inspire future participants for years to come.
