The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. The Alzheimer’s Association has organized the event since 1989, when it first began. It is held annually in more than 600 communities worldwide.
Hempfield Area School District’s Project 18 started volunteering at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in 2023. It has been a huge success for both the organization and Project 18 seniors who took time out of their day to volunteer, learn, and grow.
Earlier this month, 11 of Project 18’s seniors participated in the walk. As our seniors earned community hours, they also got to help out their community.
Mr. Stough, Mrs. Sweeney, and their Project 18 club will be volunteering at events like this all year long.
Yes, Project 18 might be just another class for a grade, but for the seniors in this class, it’s more than that, it’s how they get to help out their community in a way they never thought of before. It’s a great opportunity for these seniors to learn and evolve as they figure out the next chapter of their lives.
