Hempfield Area’s Hockey Team started their season on a high note with an exciting win over Latrobe. After weeks of intense practice and preparation, the team’s hard work and determination paid off as they earned their first victory of the season. The strong start sets an encouraging tone for what promises to be an exciting year of Spartan Hockey.
Before they hit thee ice, the team follows juniors Max Gromoll and Andrew Bryant to lead their warmup. They play a game and listen to music as they get hyped up.
They also say that the fans in the section encourage them while they are playing. Senior and Captain, Mats Martz says that their biggest strength is their speed and size. He says that their main goal is to win the Penguins Cup Championship.
Captains Jonny Holtzman and Nino DiPietro agree. This year, there are six captains, JJ Williams, Nick Crupie, Mats Martz, Evan Dunlap, Nino Dipetrio, and Jonny Holtzman.
Nino DiPietro says, “our chemistry and our offense are our biggest strengths, and we have so much depth it makes us very hard to play against”.
Jonny Holtzman says that the reason they are doing so well is because “the team has come together very well with our new coaches and the team bonding has been on point” Holtzman says, “he can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.”
With their first victory under their belts, and a record of 3-0, the team is looking ahead with confidence. Fans can expect plenty of thrilling moments as the Spartans aim to make this season one to remember.
