Gianna Novotney is a senior playing in her last season of Girls Lacrosse. Through many obstacles stood in her way, she managed to overcome them and even become team captain.
She built her way to being captain by connecting with her teammates to solidify her bond with them and learning how to be a leader. She also gone to many off season practices to continue to become better which translated well onto the field.
Novotney is constantly asking questions during practice to perfect the drills, and she tries to communicate well with everyone, which is a big improvement from when she first started. Early on, she faced confidence issues. She was a very quiet player but gradually gained confidence over the years, helping her communication. What gets her pumped up before her game is watching the Junior Varsity girls play and talking with her teammates.
She handles the intense pressure by “having fun and playing how I know to,” she says. She believes that the team’s biggest accomplishment is the varsity win against Latrobe with a score of 12- 7.
She urges new players to stick with it saying that when she started, ” I could barely pass and catch a ball”. Novotney has grown so much over the years with this program and now being captain has allowed her to meet many of her best friends whom are always there for each other on and off the field!
