After years of hard work and memories, two of our secretaries at Hempfield Area High School are saying goodbye. Mrs. Boord and Mrs. Parisi are retiring with mixed emotions and lots of time spent in the building. For Mrs. Boord, her journey at Hempfield Area began 18 years ago, the first 14 being in athletics. She started as a support staff substitute when her son was in Elementary School and applied to the high school when there was a job opening. Meanwhile, Mrs. Parisi began her journey 22 years ago, starting as a substitute secretary until Mrs. Kathy Charleton offered her a permanent position in the office. Over time, both have become familiar faces to all students when they’re in need of assistance.
Reflecting on their time at the high school, they each have moments they remember the most. For Mrs. Parisi, she “loved working while both of her sons were students at the school.”
On the other hand, Mrs. Boord fondly considers achievements she’s seen by student athletes and thinks about Dr. Palmer’s attempts to mess up her afternoon announcements. Whether it was busy mornings in the office or sharing laughs throughout the day, both ladies agree that they will miss all the friends they have made while working here.
Of course, retirement brings new beginnings. Mrs. Parisi is looking forward to traveling and not setting an alarm. Mrs. Boord also has plans to travel and spend more time with her friends and family. Though excited for this change, both admit to feeling anxious. Mrs. Parisi attempted to imagine her future days while Mrs. Boord says she will “truly miss the day-to-day interactions with the staff and students.”
Before they go, they leave behind some wisdom and words of advice. Mrs. Parisi suggests to be kind, be prepared, and be organized. Mrs. Boord reminds everyone to smile – a smile goes a long way.
Even though they are leaving their office chairs empty, we look forward to seeing who will fill their seats. The years of dedication have left a lasting impression on the school, and we wish them the best of luck in this next chapter of their lives!
