As we approach another soon ending to a fantastic school year, Hempfield Area is ready for scheduling season. The high school provides tons of classes in preparation for many future careers. We have programs with college credits, a variety of electives, and the CWCTC program that allows students to see careers in action. Students are excited to be able to select the classes that correlate with their future plans, especially rising seniors, as they embark upon a milestone in their high school journey.
Teacher recommendations allowed for a sneak peek as to what our last years at Hempfield Area will look like. Will we take College Writing and learn to build our writing knowledge. Will we sign up for fun electives such as a baking or cooking class? Or will be endeavor into a challenging AP?
Chesnee Smith is eager for scheduling to begin. For her future career, she plans to go into the computer software engineering field. Because of this, she plans on taking classes like AP Calculus and AP Chemistry, since they provide a foundation for other classes she plans on taking in the future. Although these classes aren’t necessarily ideal for an “easy” year, she knows that it will help her in her future classes at college. Since Smith is planning on taking some very challenging courses, she also wants to take some of the fun classes she has saved for her senior year. She knows that no matter what, her year will be what she makes out of it!
Another student, Ainslee Bailey, is also someone who knows what she wants her upcoming schedule to include. She is hoping to major in pre medical to then become a physician’s assistant. She plans on taking classes like AP Calculus and AP Biology to lean towards a pre medical pathway for her future career. By taking these classes here at the high school, she is able to help save college costs by earning college credits for these courses. Bailey also wants to include music courses to allow her to dabble in her passion.
The variety and tons of options for courses make planning for future plans after high school much easier. Students are given countless opportunities to succeed in whatever pathway they choose to follow and can also see the next steps of their future through upcoming course planning.
