On the outside, Eli Carr may be seen as just a wrestler, but he is that and so much more. Carr plays a bigger role than what meets the eye.
According to Mr. Vince DeAugustine, last season’s Hempfield Area Varsity Coach, Carr “ has all the intangibles you want in a young man. His work ethic, his humility, and his personality set him apart.”
Carr is a well rounded individual. He’s a part of Mini-THON as well as a United Spartan and is very involved with Project 18. He has been able to balance it all while acting as the 2024 Senior Class President.
Carr is always involved in some sort of way inside and outside of the classroom. His teachers and peers speak very highly of him. Mr. Stauffer, math teacher at Hempfield Area said “I like Eli; he gives answers and contributes. I wish more students were like him”.
His fellow peer and class treasurer, Abby Dunlap also values Carr. She says, “He is friends with everyone and a great person to work with because of his outgoing personality”.
Carr recently signed with Brown University to continue his wrestling career and major in engineering. His outstanding record coming into the 2023-24 season is 77-14, and a goal of his this season is to get 100+ career wins.
“I have coached high school wrestling for 18 years, and I can honestly say that Eli Carr is in my top 2-3 kids to be around,” said DeAugustine. “He had to fight some adversity in his career on and off the mat, but I always say that adversity doesn’t build character; it reveals it. Eli’s character is as high as anyone I’ve been around, and I am lucky to have been his coach for the past 2 seasons.”
Clearly, Carr contributes to Hempfield Area High School in many positive ways, and no matter the trials he faces, he always escapes the pin to reach success.
